Where this data comes from
CSAScoreCheck sells no data and invents no numbers. Every figure on every report card is read from the United States government's own public files — the same files the brokers' vetting systems read — and each card is stamped with the dates of the files it came from.
The files
| File | What it carries | Refresh | Current stamp |
|---|---|---|---|
| FMCSA Company Census (Motor Carrier Safety Status Measurement System source file) — dataset az4n-8mr2 | Company identity, DOT/MC numbers, authority status, fleet size, safety rating, prior-revocation links | Daily | Oct 26, 2026 |
| FMCSA Safety Measurement System (SMS) results — datasets m3ry-qcip, h3zn-uid9, 4y6x-dmck, h9zy-gjn8 on data.transportation.gov | CSA measures, published percentiles where they exist, alert flags, inspection and out-of-service totals | Monthly | October 2026 |
| SMS inspection, violation, and crash files — datasets 8mt8-2mdr and 4wxs-vbns | The violation-level detail behind "What's hurting you most," and crash counts | Monthly | October 2026 |
| Motus Licensing & Insurance files — datasets c5y8-a4uz, 3uet-3z4i, inys-ebih, e67p-xyd5 | Insurance filings and amounts, cancellation filings, authority records in FMCSA's new registration system | Daily | Oct 27, 2026 |
The honesty rules
- Percentiles only when FMCSA publishes them. FMCSA stopped publishing percentiles for most carriers in 2015. Where yours is not published, your card shows a peer position against carriers your size, computed from the same files and labelled our estimate.
- Insurance dates are filing dates. Federal insurance filings carry an effective date, not an expiry date. We never print an expiry date. If your insurer files a cancellation, its effective date is a real date in the file — that is what your card shows.
- "Not found" is stated plainly. Filings are still moving into the Motus insurance file. If a filing is not in the current file, your card says exactly that — it never claims you are uninsured.
- "Not rated" is normal. Most carriers have no FMCSA safety rating. Your card says so, in those words.
- Contact details are never displayed. The census carries phone numbers and emails. Your public card shows your business identity and your record — never your contact details.
What the record can't show
Three limits worth printing plainly. First, the census is self-reported: a company's fleet size, officers, and address are what the company filed on its MCS-150, which is why filings drift out of date until someone updates them — your card shows the filing date so you can judge the staleness yourself. Second, the safety files are a window, not a life story: inspections and crashes age out of the measurement window at 24 months, so a clean card means a clean recent record, not a spotless history — and a bad card heals on the same rule. Third, the identity threads — the officer names, addresses, and phone numbers the census carries — are the same threads broker identity systems match on; this site reads them to show you your links (a prior revocation, a shared filing) and never displays your phone or email on a public card.
Accuracy log
This brand sells a man his own livelihood record; a wrong row is the one unforgivable error. Our standing rule: any card row found contrary to the source file is corrected and re-stamped within one week, and the correction is logged here with its date. Two errors in a quarter pause kit sales until the pipeline is re-audited.
